Zoey passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the love of her wife Taylor and her parents, Jill and Rick Wendorf following a valiant three-year battle with several autoimmune diseases. She will be greatly missed by her three siblings, her grandmothers, many aunts, uncles, cousins, niece, nephews and friends.
Zoey was a brave and brilliant soul who found her calling as a visionary within the LGBTQ community.
As a classically trained vocalist, who staunchly believed in helping others find their voice, she developed her own method for voice feminization and empowered others to live with authenticity. Zoey knew how painful it was to have a voice that didn’t match who you are inside and was able to guide and support many transgender women on their journey. As a songwriter, she used her amazingly strong voice and keen insight to share her own stories of pain and triumph. The songs she has written and produced are a testament to her talent and will be cherished by those she leaves behind. She liked the theatrical aspect of performance and enjoyed her time on stage and in the studio working as a voice actress.
Zoey will be remembered as a creative, quirky and kind woman whose passion and sense of humor drew people to her and created deep and meaningful connections.
Zoey grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois and graduated from Maine South High School. She attended DePaul University for four years with an emphasis in graphic design and from an early age was a talented and precise illustrator.
Zoey had a deep faith in God. She studied and embraced spirituality and her faith brought her peace through her suffering. In her own words, “The main thing I’ve learned, is that life is too precious to focus on things beyond those you love and those who love you. Love is and always has been the answer. Jesus, our Lord and Savior taught us this. I have failed numerous times at acting Christ-like and sharing my faith though my actions. I’m sorry I wasn’t a better example. Know now, that Christ is and always has been the answer.”
A Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date which will be announced to family and close friends.
Donations in Zoey’s memory to the National Center for Transgender Equality or the Neuroimmune Foundation are appreciated.
