Hilda I. Velez

Hilda Velez, beloved daughter of the late Juan Velez and Rogelia Colon-Velez, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Puerto Rico, Hilda was the ninth of ten children. At the age of nine, she came to Chicago with her mother, beginning a new chapter that shaped her life and the lives of those she touched. Hilda was known for her gentle heart, her kindness, and her constant willingness to help anyone in the family who needed her. She played a special role in raising and supporting her nieces and nephews, always offering patience, love, and a steady presence. Her caring nature made her a beloved sister, aunt, mother, and friend. 

She is survived by her son, Branden Nunez, and her siblings: Santa (Nitin) Francisco, Victor, Angel, Maria, Fred, and Jesse, along with many nieces and nephews who adored her. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Juan and Jose.

Hilda will be remembered for her devotion to family, her quiet strength, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at 11am at Midtown Funeral Home, 3918 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL 60618. Interment will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Road, Libertyville, IL 60048. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 from 4-9pm at Midtown Funeral Home.
