Dimitrios J. Melissinas, beloved father, devoted husband, hardworking craftsman, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois, at the age of 73.
Born on November 4, 1952, in Neos Skopos, Greece, Dimitrios carried the warmth and spirit of his homeland with him throughout his life. In 1967, he immigrated to the United States with his loving mother, Arhontoula Papastavros, his father, John Melissinas, and his younger brother, Kostas (Gus) Melissinas, seeking opportunity and building a life defined by dedication, generosity, and love for his family and community.
For most of his life, Dimitrios worked as a commercial painter, a trade he took great pride in. His skill, precision, craftsmanship, and strong work ethic were known and respected by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Beyond his work, Dimitrios found immense happiness in learning to play and master the bouzouki throughout his life. He found great joy spending time in Chicago’s Greektown, a neighborhood that reminded him of home and was filled with friends who loved him dearly. Memories of Dimitrios playing his favorite songs by his absolute favorite singer, Stelios Kazantzidis, will be cherished and fondly remembered. There was never a dull moment in his presence. His laughter, kindness, and welcoming spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dimitrios is survived by his wife, Maria Melissinas; his two sons; his daughter; his three grandchildren; and his great-grandchild, all of whom will forever remember his guidance, warmth, and unwavering support. His life and legacy will continue to live on in their hearts and in the countless lives he touched.
A visitation will be held on December 18, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Andersen Morgan Funeral Home, 10300 Grand Ave., Franklin Park, IL 60131. Interment will be private.
