Artemios “Art” Tavoularis, 88, of Glenview passed away on April 21, 2026. He was born in Elos, Laconia, Greece on December 5, 1937 to the late Artemios and Despina Tavoularis. Beloved husband of Niki Tavoularis; Loving father of Chris Tavoularis, George Tavoularis and Despina (Frank) Alexis. Devoted pappou (grandfather) of Marina, Niki, and Dean Alexis. Fond brother, uncle, cousin, and friend of many.
When he was twenty-five years old, Art immigrated to Canada and started a new life. He was mentored by a tailor and learned to become an expert in the trade. Two years later, in 1964, at twenty-seven years old, he married the love of his life, Niki. They were married for over sixty years and went on to have three children together. Artemios and Niki moved to America in 1971 and settled in Chicago.
In 1981, Artemios opened Art’s Tailors & Cleaners which he owned and operated for almost twenty-five years. He was a renowned tailor in the Chicagoland area, known for creating his own suits as a young man, and widely sought out for alterations by all because of his impressive skill to accomplish complex requests efficiently. Artemios was the most hard-working and resilient man, becoming incredibly successful from humble beginnings—growing up without a father, as he was orphaned at just three months old. His love of country and Hellenism was unparalleled.
He and his wife were long-time, dedicated and involved community members of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago and St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church in Niles. Although he never had the opportunity to attend schooling past the fifth grade, Artemios was a huge proponent and advocate for the education of his family. He was a social man who loved to tell stories, enjoyed being in the company of friends, and could always make everyone laugh. Art will truly be missed by all.
May His Memory Be Eternal!
