Areti Kafadaris, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, at the age of 86. Born in 1939 in Koutsopodi, Argolis, Greece, Areti carried with her throughout her life the values of faith, family, kindness, and resilience that defined her upbringing.
In 1961, Areti married the love of her life, Michael Kafadaris. Together they shared many cherished years of marriage until Michael’s passing in 2012. Their bond was one of enduring love, partnership, and dedication to their family.
She and her husband moved to Illinois where they built a life centered around love and devotion to their family. She found her greatest joy in caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Areti was a loving and devoted mother to Marigo (Panagioti) Vassilopoulos, Angeliki (Anthony) Rizos, and George (Christy) Kafantaris. She was the proud and adored grandmother of eight: Demetri, Michael (Yusleydys), Konstantinos (Flavia), Sophia (Theodore), Areti (Lucas), Nicholas (Katherine), Michael, and Eleni. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Vasili, Panagioti, Leonida, Thanasi, Petro, Maria, and Lydia, each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Areti will be remembered for her strength, warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. She found happiness in bringing loved ones together, preserving family traditions, and offering kindness and support to everyone around her. Her presence filled every room with comfort, wisdom, and love.
Though deeply missed, her memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026 at 10am at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, 7373 N. Caldwell Ave., Niles, IL 60714. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at church from 9am until the time of service.
